FolquetNo one should pay real money to see this film. If however you find yourself in those regretful circumstances, here is a plausible list of good things that might help you digest the crow sandwich. a) Malin Akerman (and her very appealing eyewear) b) Tom Cruise as a Jessie-James-sort-of character, overtaken by his own celebrity persona (in fact, absurd as it may sound, I do think that Cruise's performance here has something of a tragic undertone) (and I mean tragic as in Greek tragic, not just Tom Cruise-tragic) c) the music: not the one we hear (which is rubbish) but the fact that this film, purportedly about rock, does not seem able to include any real rock in its soundtrack. Even Linklater's School of Rock does a better job in that sense: which makes me think that, after all, rock is still not completely 'safe' for the entertainment machine. And that is a good thing. d) Corollary to point c. Rock may not be safe enough for Tom Cruise, but it is apparently all right for Disney. Now that I am not sure is a good thing.Created on 2/1/2015
