- MARTINTest captures the moment when an H.I.V. test became available in it's early years of the epidemic. It could easily be another story full of pathos but, hopefully, instead there's an extraordinary precision and sensitivity, strange, almost poetic feeling but also a world of hope, humor, visual beauty and musical relief. The purpose may be too simple, the dance scenes a bit too long. Anyways, the film's period soundtrack consisting of songs by Jimmy Somerville, Klaus Nomi, Laurie Anderson, Cocteau Twins and others offers a great nostalgia fix. As well as the phrase about sexual self-discipline: "Monogamy seems so unnatural," right?
