Mei is the second of three daughters.

Her parents, who love anime, named her after Mei Kusakabe from the film, "My Neighbor Totoro". Mei debuted as an idol in 2014 with the military-themed unit "Tenkou Shoujo Kagekidan" (later renamed "Tenko Shojo*").
